Whipped up this pretty little app for a Mother’s Day dinner spent with J and his family. I recently had dinner at Delarosa here in SF, which inspired the above delight.

Crostini with Burrata Cheese, Hazelnuts, & Honey

Ingredients:

French baguette

Burrata Cheese

Honey

Hazelnuts

Olive Oil

S & P

Directions:

Slice the baguette into 1/2 inch slices.

Toast the hazelnuts in a frying pan over medium-high heat, until fragrant and the skins begin to look a little roasted, about 3-5 minutes. Set aside to cool. Once they’ve cooled off a bit, use a kitchen towel to rub off the loose skins. Can’t get all the skins off? Me neither. Just rub off the loose skin that you can, and don’t sweat it if some are left on there.

Lightly brush the baguette slices with the reserved olive oil. Over medium high heat, lightly toast the baguette slices in the same frying pan, about 1-2 minutes per side (or pop them in the toaster oven, that’s what we did!). Remove from pan, and place on a large cutting board.

Now you’re ready to assemble the crostini. Spread each toast with about 1 tablespoon of the fresh burrata. Top each with a small pinch of sea salt, one grind of pepper, and the hazelnuts. Drizzle all the crostini with honey. Arrange on a platter and enjoy!

Chicken, Peach, & Goat Cheese Turnovers / Creme Brulee

Throw back to last spring…

Yet again, another amazing dinner that sat neglected in my drafts folder for nearly a year now!

Too delicious and adventurous not to share - din and dessert hand crafted by yours truly and mi amiga, Christina. The turnovers were such a yummy treat - don’t be afraid to mix it up depending on what fruit is in season - I’ve seen these made with pears and apples - and if you don’t fancy goat cheese try blue cheese or gorgonzola for a tangier taste. Creme Brulee is no joke - we made the decision to make it mainly based on the fact that Christina’s BF was in dental school, and owned a torch - I mean how could we not capitalize on that opportunity?

Lunch is served. That’s a pretty little sando don’t ya think? Super easy, healthy, and delish. No it doesn’t take a foodie genius to come up with this one, but just a suggestion from me to you - to mix things up at the lunch hour.

What you need:

Turkey or Chicken Breast

Havarti or Swiss Cheese

Spinach

Sliced Apple

Hummus

Greek Yogurt (low fat)

Pita Pockets

What you do:

Simply mix 1 tsp of hummus with 1 tsp of Greek yogurt in a small bowl. Then spread onboth pita halves - add turkey, cheese, sliced apple, and spinach. Bon appetit!

In honor of a crazy couple of weeks (hence why the blogging has been rather light) wanted to show you all - BIG JAMBOX by Jawbone. Know you’ve seen my posts about JAMBOX, well now it’s just a little bigger with even more sound. IMHO, it’s the perfect home accessory - think dinner parties, picnics, beach blankets, or weekend getaways.

Spring and summer never sounded so good. (I had to say it)

xo!

My parental units are in Italy for two weeks. They really live the life, I tell ya! Rented a villa with a private chef, toured Rome, Sorento, Banfi, and so much more. So happy for them :)

Happy weekending to all my PJ readers! I’m off for a walk by the water. Ciao for now!

Wine-Opening Trick: All You Need is Your Shoe?

Holy moly this actually works! I watched Jordan’s video below and found a bunch of others. AH-mazing.

ramshackleglam:

What is this madness?

No…but seriously…

this isn’t possible, is it?

Wizardry! From the French!

(If you know any ways to remove wine bottle corks sans openers, please leave them in the comments for the edification of all.)

28 Years Young in San Francisco

A much overdue birthday post…

Last year’s birthday post has inspired me to keep up the tradition of tracking the birthday activities, venues, and eats. The past five where spent in NYC and how fun it was to look back on how things changed over the years - so this marked my first west coast birthday! The b-day fell on a Wednesday night this year so the night before my good friend Kate threw me a little girlie get together at her apt with apps and wine (we tried ReWinery, yay!), and then Wednesday night Jeremy and I dined at Nopa (which was delicious and took a month to get a reservation!) The weekend following, in typical northern California style, we rallied together Sarah and Danielle, who you remember from my recent travels and their BFs, and our good friends Jared and Carmen who you remember from many fun SF & Maine adventures and we headed up to Jeremy’s parents condo in Napa (thanks Franks!) for some eating, drinking, and living room dance-partying.

Thanks to everyone for such a great birthday! Some of the fun details and snaps below.

+++

Twenty-Eight

Venues: Kate’s Apt, Nopa, Weekend in Napa Valley (including Guilliams Winery, and Mumms)

Good Eats & Drinks: ReWinery, Strawberry Short-Cake & Strawberry Confetti Cake
(I’m on some weird strawberry kick this year I guess), Pinata (?!) + Flabongo, and lots of delicious wine and bubbles

Double the birthday, double the fun! Gar’s (Sarah’s bf) birthday was a week after mine so we thought it was the perfect excuse for us to combine forces and head away for the weekend to celebrate.

Group shot at Guilliams Winery in Spring Mountain district - highly reco this family run spot, you’ll need resi, but it’s totally worth the gorgeous drive up the mountain.

Pedro the Pinata

Pot de Crème a la Nopa

Apps via Lauren and Kate :)

Strawberry Short Cake

ReWinery success! How adorbs are those labels? We had to keep the bottles. The “Mission” Pinot Noir was our fav (far right).

What was in this box you ask? A tennis racket and 3 hour long tennis lessons at the CA Tennis Club!
