Happy 75th birthday to the Golden Gate Bridge! Or as some SF’ers I know call it the “GiGi”.

You’ve taken my breathe away to the point of tears on numerous occasions and your beauty never gets old. I make a point to catch a glimpse of you as many days of the week that I can because you, who stretches 9000ft across, just make everything better -your magical presence is calming and magnificent, and it makes me fall in love with this beautiful city over and over again. Here’s to you and 3M+ cans of international orange paint!

Double the Road Trip, Double the Fun

Holiday weekends are the best. I’m currently at work, sipping a pineapple mango mimosa (thanks to my cubemate for the pre-holiday bevvys!) which believe it or not is totally socially accepted the day before a holiday (at least I think it is). We’re counting down the minutes until it’s 1 PM like little school girls waiting for the bell to ring.

I’ve got two mini road trips on the agenda this weekend - up to Napa to stay at J’s parents condo, sun ourselves, and meet a few friends to wine taste (not complaining) - and then down to Carmel by the Sea to stay at this cutie Country Garden Inn (photo below) for more relaxing, exploring, and sunning (definitely not complaining!) - gotta love the California coast.

Where are you headed?

Check out this list of west coast or east coast road trips from FathomAway and start planning your next!

Need a vote: Is this wine country wedding worthy? Or is it rehearsal dinner? (Sleeves and back are open and flowy.) (Taken with instagram)

UPDATED: Votes are in. I am thrilled you all think it’s totally wedding worthy! Thanks for the comments and stay tuned for shots from the wedding (6/17)! xx J

Huge case of necklace envy. I need to have this. LOVE!

UPDATED: Purchased thanks to an awesome Refinery29 discount! I bought $75 and they gave me $150 to use at Maya Brenner. So excited never to take this beauty off my neck. Ok, maybe I won’t wear it every day.

Whipped up this pretty little app for a Mother’s Day dinner spent with J and his family. I recently had dinner at Delarosa here in SF, which inspired the above delight.

Crostini with Burrata Cheese, Hazelnuts, & Honey

Ingredients:

French baguette

Burrata Cheese

Honey

Hazelnuts

Olive Oil

S & P

Directions:

Slice the baguette into 1/2 inch slices.

Toast the hazelnuts in a frying pan over medium-high heat, until fragrant and the skins begin to look a little roasted, about 3-5 minutes. Set aside to cool. Once they’ve cooled off a bit, use a kitchen towel to rub off the loose skins. Can’t get all the skins off? Me neither. Just rub off the loose skin that you can, and don’t sweat it if some are left on there.

Lightly brush the baguette slices with the reserved olive oil. Over medium high heat, lightly toast the baguette slices in the same frying pan, about 1-2 minutes per side (or pop them in the toaster oven, that’s what we did!). Remove from pan, and place on a large cutting board.

Now you’re ready to assemble the crostini. Spread each toast with about 1 tablespoon of the fresh burrata. Top each with a small pinch of sea salt, one grind of pepper, and the hazelnuts. Drizzle all the crostini with honey. Arrange on a platter and enjoy!

In honor of a crazy couple of weeks (hence why the blogging has been rather light) wanted to show you all - BIG JAMBOX by Jawbone. Know you’ve seen my posts about JAMBOX, well now it’s just a little bigger with even more sound. IMHO, it’s the perfect home accessory - think dinner parties, picnics, beach blankets, or weekend getaways.

Spring and summer never sounded so good. (I had to say it)

xo!

28 Years Young in San Francisco

A much overdue birthday post…

Last year’s birthday post has inspired me to keep up the tradition of tracking the birthday activities, venues, and eats. The past five where spent in NYC and how fun it was to look back on how things changed over the years - so this marked my first west coast birthday! The b-day fell on a Wednesday night this year so the night before my good friend Kate threw me a little girlie get together at her apt with apps and wine (we tried ReWinery, yay!), and then Wednesday night Jeremy and I dined at Nopa (which was delicious and took a month to get a reservation!) The weekend following, in typical northern California style, we rallied together Sarah and Danielle, who you remember from my recent travels and their BFs, and our good friends Jared and Carmen who you remember from many fun SF & Maine adventures and we headed up to Jeremy’s parents condo in Napa (thanks Franks!) for some eating, drinking, and living room dance-partying.

Thanks to everyone for such a great birthday! Some of the fun details and snaps below.

Twenty-Eight

Venues: Kate’s Apt, Nopa, Weekend in Napa Valley (including Guilliams Winery, and Mumms)

Good Eats & Drinks: ReWinery, Strawberry Short-Cake & Strawberry Confetti Cake
(I’m on some weird strawberry kick this year I guess), Pinata (?!) + Flabongo, and lots of delicious wine and bubbles

Double the birthday, double the fun! Gar’s (Sarah’s bf) birthday was a week after mine so we thought it was the perfect excuse for us to combine forces and head away for the weekend to celebrate.

Group shot at Guilliams Winery in Spring Mountain district - highly reco this family run spot, you’ll need resi, but it’s totally worth the gorgeous drive up the mountain.

Pedro the Pinata

Pot de Crème a la Nopa

Strawberry Short Cake

ReWinery success! How adorbs are those labels? We had to keep the bottles. The “Mission” Pinot Noir was our fav (far right).

What was in this box you ask? A tennis racket and 3 hour long tennis lessons at the CA Tennis Club!

Off to…Coachella!

Via Fathom

“Everyone at Coachella is perpetually smiling. Life’s B.S. baggage has a No Entry sign during Coachella weekend. There is just something about thousands of people pilgraming from all over the world to the desert to dance, listen to music, see famous people rock headbands, and celebrate life that just gets me in the jugular. The desert is known for its incredible healing elements, and I like to believe we are all changed people when we leave. I may be projecting a profound truth onto a 72-hour party, but I stand behind it 100 percent. Is it next year yet?”

This past Sunday my roomie Lauren and I headed out to the Alameda Flea Market in Alameda Point which is not too far over the Bay Bridge - what an experience! To our surprise the flea is actually more of an antique faire with lots of old furniture, paintings, and vintage collectibles. If you’re in the market for home furnishings this is such a cool place to browse around!

I could not resist the very cool painting pictured above from the Olde Good Things truck, and Lauren purchased a gorgeous, almost wall length mirror from the same spot. My second purchase of the day was the sweet and salty kettle corn, I mean how I could I not?!

The faire takes place on the first Sunday of every month - so the next one will be May 6th. Go to their website for directions and vendor info, and follow them on Twitter for updates. The view of the city from the Navy Pier in Alameda is to die for - and the one of a kind collectibles make it more than worth the trip!

Far Away or Just a Phone Call Away?

Dear Diary,

Confession: Living on the west coast and having so many friends and nearly all of my family members on the east coast is hard. There I said it. It’s really f-ing hard sometimes.

I absolutely love living in California, no questions about it, but after settling in for the last 8 months (I can’t believe it has already been 8 months!) it has indeed started to hit me that I am going to miss out on a lot being out here. Sure, I can hop on a flight and spend holidays with friends and family, but it’s the little things that I miss the most. It’s my best friend running a marathon and not being able to be at the finish line, it’s missing friends birthdays that I haven’t missed in nearly 8 years, it’s the fact that my brother can pop over to my parents house (in Florida) any day of the week for dinner and I can’t, it’s missing two of my best friends wedding showers AND bachelorettes this summer, it’s not being able to get coffee or a glass of wine on a Sunday afternoon, it’s not being able to call my best friend or my mom when I get home from work when I really need to talk because they’re already in bed. It’s so many of the little things.

The thing is, I love it out here and my way of life has significantly improved. This city is everything I imagined it to be - and more. I feel so alive living here and I’ve barely scratched the surface. For all the little things I miss I know being here I’ve gained a lot. I am so blessed to have such good new friends out here, a loving and supportive boyfriend whose family is here, a great roommate, and so many new people, places, and experiences. I signed up for this, and I wouldn’t want it any other way, I just finally am realizing that, ya know what? It’s not easy.

Don’t get me wrong, I didn’t think it would be a walk in the park to move across the country, away from the entire life that I built in NYC - I knowing made the choice and was ready to take on the consequences. I just want my friends and family to know that I miss them and I think about them all the time and just because I’m not there doesn’t mean that I love or support them any less.

Its not the actual distance that makes me feel far away - it’s the balance between building a life here and maintaining and feeling a part of my close relationships back there.

I wonder, is a phone call away, close enough?

Wine Delivery in SF? Um, Yes Please.

Have you SF’ers heard of this amazing service?

Basically the next time you are desperately in need of a glass of vino and are too lazy or just can’t make it to the store - Rewinery will bring you a trio of delicious high-quality wines to your home, office, or even your picnic blanket in Dolores Park - for a flat free of $40!

You can order wine daily until 2 AM within SF by phone or via their iPhone app. I mean, this sounds like a dream if ya ask me. Reminds me of the delivery ice-cream club I joined in NYC which was amazing. I will give it a try and let you know how it goes.

Thanks to Tasting Table for the note.

Cheers!

This past Saturday afternoon Jeremy and I joined Sarah and Garrett and co at Rodeo Beach in Marin County for a day of picnicking, surfing, and lounging around. Rodeo Beach is two miles north of the Golden Gate bridge so makes for the perfect half day trip.

The beach is known for its pebbly sand and gorgeous bluffs (tip: sit with your back against the bluffs to hide from the wind). We brougth wine and cheese, a baseball and baseball mitts, blankets, a JAMBOX, + great company - and we had ourselves a lovely day.

A day on the beach in the middle of February, is just one more reason I love CA!

Ballooning Above the Valley

You guys might think this is cheesy, but I’ve just added this little adventure to my bucket list - Ballooning! I’d be open to trying it in many different locations (here Turkey is known for this!), but stumbled upon a spot in Napa that looks just lovely. Call me crazy or full of “hot air” (had to say it!), but something about hot air balloons and champagne is just so damn romantic!
